In 1847, at a local South Australian pub, a coin was flipped and Joseph Gilbert lost the bet to keep his vineyard name as 'Karrawatta'. Over 150 years later, the name has been revived by his great great great grandson, Mark Gilbert.
The red and white varieties are distinguished from each other by the use of black and grey with copper hoods and foils as an accent. The arrow which features in the original Gilbert family crest and the Karrawatta logo is used as an accent on the label and the hood.
